Critical Mass

Nielson Mobile released a report last week entitled “"Critical Mass: The Worldwide State of the Mobile Web".

Among their key findings:

  • We have likely achieved critical mass when it comes to the mobile Internet
  • The U.S. is leading the world in adoption of mobile Internet usage
  • As of May, 2008 there were 40 million active mobile internet users in the U.S. (a 28% increase from the year before)
  • Mobile Internet usage is being driven by flat rate “all-you-can-eat” voice & data plans
  • Advertising is becoming a common part of the Mobile Internet experience
  • Most widely used site is Yahoo! Mail

This new report continues to show just how pervasive mobile devices and Internet services are becoming in today’s society. For many people, the mobile Internet is a way of life and it is changing how they interact, work, and play. And we have only just seen the tip of the iceberg.

It is interesting to note that email is the most popular type of Internet service. This fits very well with our belief that users want mobile solutions which enable real life.
