Microsoft acquires MobiComp

Microsoft announced today that it is acquiring Mobicomp, a company with some interesting backup and restore technology as well as an active “ticker” feature. The timing is curious given Nokia’s recent Symbian announcement. Maybe Microsoft is feeling a little pressure?

Our sector has been abuzz since yesterday when Microsoft agreed to acquire Danger Inc., makers of the popular Hiptop/Sidekick handsets. The move represents a considerable strengthening of its mobile consumer division and indicates that Microsoft has a clear vision for the future of mobility.
